Lake Baikal is located in the Asian part of Russia, known as Siberia. Closeby is the city of Irkutsk where the Trans-Siberian Railway stops. Lake Baikal is the deepest lake anywhere in the world, at 1700 meters. It also is the oldest lake (25 million years) in the world and to add, it contains 20% of the world's total unfrozen freshwater reserve.
